I came across this live vid of FlyKkiller – decent live ones are hard to find; it was totally accident, after visiting Lesley de Freitas site where she had a link to “Shine Out Shine Out” by the band. The whole thing got started when I saw this shot (on Diane Pernet’s site) of a crazy outfit I would love to have:

Lesley de Freitas is a Central Saint Martins graduate that cut her teeth at BOUDICCA and worked designing on a commercial level for a high street wholesaler/supplier before launching her own brand. She also lectures in fashion and does illustration part time. The current collection is inspired by Bill Viola's work - St John of the Cross. She was introduced to the work by Howard Tangye.
A scene from the movie Herostratus (1967), directed by experimental filmmaker Don Levy. Featuring the beautiful Dame Helen Mirren in one of her first movie appearances.
Helen Mirren knocks Hollywood for worshipping young males.
I’ve been listening to the Lykke Li album – “Youth Novels” from last year, and since it’s on my ipod, I thought I should at least pass along some of the w’s about her. I also just came across the vid of her with Black Cab Sessions, and it’s really cool, take a look.
Li was born in Ystad, Skåne County in 1986 and was raised by artistic parents; her mother was a painter, her father is a musician. The family moved to Stockholm when Li was a toddler and later moved to a mountaintop in Portugal when Li was six, where they lived for five years; the family also spent time in Lisbon and Morocco and spent winters in Nepal and India. She moved to the neighborhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn in New York for three months when she was 19. She returned when she was 21 to record her album. When not touring, she resides in the Södermalm district of Stockholm. myspace
Lykke Li – Dance Dance Dance.mp3 - from her first album, ‘Youth Novels’ | amazon
“Having troubles telling how I feel
But I can dance, dance, dance
Couldn’t possibly tell you how I mean
But I can dance, dance, dance
So when I trip on my feet
Look at the beat
The words are, written in the sand
When I’m shaking my hips
Look for the swing
The words are written in the airDance,
I was a dancer all along
Dance, dance, dance
Words can never make up for what you do.”

Lykke Li – Black Cab Sessions Li also recently had a single released on the compilation soundtrack for the film “New Moon”. It’s a pretty sombre track, not that I don’t like it – have a listen here. |
